KTB is currently working on a hotel in Kent. The project aims to blend both contemporary design with this historic narrative - moving away from a pastiche of the Glasshouse to create a contemporary building that clearly articulates itself as a modern structure within the listed enviroment and curtilage listed Gardens. The building has been designed as a simple aggregate of volumes as to not compete with other structures on site.
The mass of the building is hidden through the use of both the topography of the site and further excavation works - creating a seemingly single storey building which echoes the heights and volumes of the original Glasshouse structure. Working below ground level allows us to provide the areas required by the client without a detrimental effect on the landscape or historic setting.
